xyz nyc is a new approach to modern dance-making in New York City. Bringing the choreographic process to a reality-TV-inspired format, modern dance-makers are invited to meet for the first time and create an entirely new performance-ready piece in a single week.  A guest judge gives feedback to each of the choreographers, and the audience votes on their favorite dance. A winner is crowned at the end of the show, winning fame and glory and the chance of developing their new dance into a 2 night run at The Tank.

This is the The Championship Round!  The three winners from this season’s xyz nyc will all compete in this ultimate choreographic battle to win a full run of their own show at The Tank!

Theme: Second Avenue Subway
Twist: Must swap music with a fellow choreographer
Choreographers: Vanessa Long (July winner), Erin Carlisle Norton (October winner), Brandon Powers (March winner)
Guest Judge: Alexandra Beller

The Moving Architects’ Americana continues Artistic Director Erin Carlisle Norton’s focus of embodying past and distant spaces in the heightened present of live performance.  Americana looks to the iconic images and interpersonal struggles of the migrating American family during the Great Depression era.  Through exactingly rhythmic movement, tornadoes of meaningful interaction, and heartfelt gentleness, this women-centric work exemplifies the expansiveness of the Midwest prairies, fragility of the weathered spirit, and grit needed to survive rough times.
