The Moving Architects (TMA), led by Artistic Director Erin Carlisle Norton, is currently seeking invested, inquisitive, and intelligent women dancers for projects beginning summer 2017. Dancers should have a movement foundation grounded in ballet and modern dance forms with the ability to execute aggressive, physically demanding, technical, and articulated movement. Additional skills needed include working intimately within an ensemble; ease with improvisation, movement manipulation, and partner work; and readiness for an investigatory rehearsal process. Audition is a workshop format that includes learning and manipulating repertory movement material and interacting through small group movement studies. Rehearsals are Sundays, and dancers are paid for performances as well as on a project-by-project basis.

Prompted by Jersey City Theater Center’s theme of “Disruption”, The Moving Architects present “Anthology” as an evening of women-centric dance works choreographed by Erin Carlisle Norton that look to eras of disruption and how individuals, relationships, and communities manage and overcome these challenging times.
Featured works include “The Groove”, a quartet that abruptly overturns and surges within a buzzing sound score in order to become a trusting yet aggressive community trying to connect. “The Jam” is a group dance work with a mod flair, exacting attitude, and 60’s surf and rock soundtrack, suggesting the extremes of a turbulent era side by side with a pop culture that promoted mirth and oblivion. “10” is a new solo choreographed and performed by Director Erin Carlisle Norton that utilizes a sound score of her own recorded voice to narrate and share experiences of running a dance company for ten years. “Americana” looks to the iconic images and interpersonal struggles of the migrating American family during the Great Depression era and includes video collaboration with gwen charles.
The array of themes and artistic work in “Anthology” reveals the indefatigable feminine strength of The Moving Architects alongside compelling performances by Caitlin Bailey, Maggie Beutner, Jenny Gram, Léla Groom, and Ashley Peters, with projections by multi-disciplinary artist gwen charles, and precision-dependent choreography by Erin Carlisle Norton, in celebration of the company’s 10th Anniversary Season.
